What to expect at a Sound bath
In some circles a Sound Bath pops up in conversation as the new most amazing thing that “You have to try!” Or maybe you’ve never even heard of this before and you’re wondering if there is water involved. There’s not, and it’s not really new.
Sound has been used as a healing tool since ancient times. Without going too deep here, I’ll try to explain the basic idea. The entire universe is made of energy, and everything in the universe has a vibration. Nothing is at rest, if you remember from chemistry class, even the tiniest particles in a block of ice are vibrating in place. Warm things speed up, cool things slow down, but they never stop moving. Your body, your cells, the energy around your body also has specific vibrations. Even the thought patterns in your head create vibratory patterns. Sometimes these vibrations can fall out of harmony so to speak.
During a sound bath I use crystal bowls, chimes, or other instruments to create waves of sound vibrations that wash over your body. You are literally bathed in sound. Your body, mind and energy field will naturally attune to the frequencies, bringing your body systems into a natural alignment. Sound therapy can promote deep states of relaxation and meditation, nervous system balancing, as well as emotional or energetic release.
What does that look like or feel like? Basically we start with some slow breathing, usually a guided meditation to get you to begin to relax followed by the sound portion of the night. All you have to do on your end is lay down on a yoga mat, eyes closed, with a light blanket or pillow and enjoy the beautiful sounds. You may even see colors or images, similar to dreaming, your consciousness could go elsewhere, or you could even drift off to sleep. There is no wrong way for you to experience a sound bath. Often people describe a very blissful feeling when it’s over, or you may feel like you just got up from a very restful sleep.
